McLanahan Hosts Two Successful
Sand Solutions Conferences In New York and Michigan

This year McLanahan Corporation decided to try something new with its annual Sand Solutions Conference. Instead of two days in one location, they hosted two one-day conferences in two different locations. Each one-day conference included discussions on freestall housing and the management of sand bedded freestalls including stall design, ventilation, facility layout, retrofitting to sand bedding and manure handling considerations. The theme of this year's event was "Designing Successful Sand Facilities".

Those who attended the program in Geneseo, NY heard from industry experts Dr. Bill Bickert, Professor Emeritus, Agricultural Engineering at Michigan State University; Curt Gooch, P.E., Dairy Facilities and Waste Management Engineer at Cornell PRO-DAIRY Program; Andrew Wedel, P.E., McLanahan Corporation; and Renee Schrift, McLanahan Corporation. Following a morning of presentations from these experts, attendees were then transported to Schwab Dairy Farms and Dairy Knoll Farms where they had the opportunity to see working systems and hear directly from farm owners about the benefits of using a sand system.

The program in Lansing, MI, was very similar to the one in New York. Speakers included Bickert, Wedel and Schrift, but they were joined at this location by Dr. Marcelo Oberto, DMV, a Veterinarian-Nutritionist with INTER-Ag, LLC. In Michigan.   The conference included system tours at Swisslane Farms and Nobis Dairy Farms.
